Patrick Savage

Originally from Bendigo and now based in London, Patrick Savage has led a multifaceted musical career across genres. One of Britain’s foremost violinists and a former principal member of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, he has performed on the great stages of the world as guest concertmaster, soloist and chamber musician. His 2024 album, The Golden Age of Hollywood: Concert Works For Violin and Piano, was selected as chamber music release of the month by BBC Music Magazine, June 2024.
He is also a member of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts and has composed a string of feature film scores. Patrick has led touring bands for icons Burt Bacharach and Quincy Jones, performed electroacoustic ambient sets on electric violin alongside trail-blazing French composer and DJ, Holeg Spies, led studio orchestras for multiple film and television scores, and leads the band for the London production of the global smash-hit musical, HAMILTON.
Patrick was a student of Donald Scotts in Melbourne at the Victorian College of the Arts and then Dr Felix Andrievsky at the Royal College of Music in London. As a chamber player he was also a Leverhulme Fellow at the Royal Academy of Music and a Junior Fellow at the Royal College. In his years as first violinist in the Tippett Quartet, he performed critically acclaimed Wigmore Hall and Purcell Room recitals and championed British contemporary composers.
In Britain, he has featured as soloist with multiple orchestras including the BBC Concert Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra and the Young Musicians’ Symphony Orchestra Patrick’s April 2024 recital album release, in partnership with pianist, Martin Cousin, The Golden Age of Hollywood: Concert works for Violin and Piano, featured concert works by icons of American film, including world premiere recordings of works by Bernard Herrmann, Jerome Meross and Heinz Roemheld and was greeted with universal critical acclaim. His May 2024 Australian recital tour, featuring music from the album, was received with exceptional warmth and enthusiasm by audiences, and included the world premiere performance of Pastoral (Twilight), by Herrmann. For the ABC, he has recently recorded a recital disc of unaccompanied works by Australian composer, Caerwen Martin, as well as the premier recording of his own violin and piano arrangement of Saint-Saëns’ 1908 film score, L’ASSASSINAT DU DUC DE GUISE. Other recent recording work includes releases of music by Halvorsen alongside the brilliant British cellist, Rachael Lander, and the debut recording of On A Dark Night… for solo violin, written for Patrick by Australian composer, Stephen Holgate.
As guest concertmaster, he has toured and recorded with major orchestras including the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, the Liverpool Philharmonic, the Australian World Orchestra, the English National Opera, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and Opera Australia.
As a studio musician, Patrick has recorded for film scores with combined box office takings of over sixteen billion US dollars, including many of the biggest blockbusters of recent decades, including THE LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy, MISSION IMPOSSIBLE – FINAL RECKONING, JURASSIC WORLD: REBIRTH as well as television series such as CALL THE MIDWIFE and DOWNTON ABBEY. He has also contributed as a musician to albums by legendary recording artists including Paul McCartney, Radiohead, Frank Ocean and Sting.
