Laurence Ungless

Laurence Ungless is a versatile double and electric bassist, equally comfortable in both classical and jazz idioms. His musical education began in earnest at the Yehudi Menuhin School, on a scholarship supported by the Rolling Stones. Further education followed at the Royal College of Music as a Foundation Scholar, and at the Royal Academy of Music as a Leverhulme Scholar.

 Since moving to London, Laurence has enjoyed a varied schedule including chamber music recordings and performances with John Williams, Alison Balsom, Craig Ogden, Alexander Baillie, Tippett Quartet and others. He has also worked with orchestras including the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra, BBC Concert Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, Royal Northern Sinfonia, Aurora Orchestra, John Wilson Orchestra and the Sinfonia of London.

Laurence is also heavily involved with both jazz and commercial worlds, having been a member of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra for two years. Alongside being a member of the Callum Au Big Band, Louis Dowdeswell Big Band and Echoes of Ellington, he has performed or recorded with artists including: Quincy Jones, The Who, David Gilmour, Thom Yorke, Björk, Richard Ashcroft, Sam Smith, Jessie J, Brian May, Mark Ronson, Seth Macfarlane and many others as well as appearing on the soundtracks of over 250 films.
