Ting-Ru Lai

Born in Taiwan, Ting-Ru Lai enjoys a wide range of musical activities as a violist. She is a member of both the Eusebius String Quartet and the Britten Oboe Quartet, and performs regularly in international chamber music festivals including Utrecht, Sion, Elba, Australia, Belfast, Leicester, Winchester, Stamford, Llantwit Major and many more. Ting-Ru has collaborated with renowned artists such as Janine Jansen, Nobuko Imai, Lawrence Power, Garth Knox, Timothy Ridout, Boris Brovtsyn, Clara-Jumi Kang, Nicholas Daniel OBE, and Denis Kozhukhin. Her chamber music appearances have taken her to prestigious venues including Wigmore Hall, the Barbican Centre, the Kölner Philharmonie, TivoliVredenburg, the National Music Auditorium Madrid, and Jordan Hall. From 2019 to 2022, she served as Sub-Principal viola at the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Since then, she has performed regularly with ensembles such as Amsterdam Sinfonietta, Aurora Orchestra, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, and has appeared as guest principal viola with Philharmonia Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Ulster Orchestra, Britten Sinfonia, and Manchester Camerata. Ting-Ru studied at the New England Conservatory with Dimitri Murrath and at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with David Takeno. She also counts Hsin-Yin Huang and Nobuko Imai among her most important mentors. Ting-Ru plays on a Viennese Viola by Anton Posch c. 1750.
